Yes, they are worth beating. It's also a challenge in that you have to have a good party to get through. make sure you exploit these type advatages:

Bring a good ice pokemon and a pokemon that knows an ice move
Bring a good water type and ground type
Bring a good grass type
Bring a good dark type and a good ghost type

That really should get you through.

My original party made it to the second person, then her Gliscor koed my whole team. =/

yes, gliscor is annoying with his elemental fangs. just use an ice type and it goes down like that.

(i had a gliscor with a better moveset when i battled the e4 the first time)
